Meet the Tutors of the Taster Session

Karen van Hoey Smith

Karen is an Artistic Director and Fine Art Auctioneer with a degree in Fine Art Evaluation. She previously worked as a gallerist for over 15 years and was a partner at a leading UK art publishing house. Having successfully worked as an Art Broker, selling pieces by renowned artists such as Banksy, Karen found herself naturally supporting artists in achieving more sales and reaching their goals. She is now the Lead Artist Mentor at the VAA, spearheading the professional development of artists.

Louise Minnaar

Based between South Africa and the UK, Louise pursued her passion for art early on, attending Art School for four years before earning a degree in education. With over 10 years of experience in the art industry, she has worked in art auctions worldwide and collaborated with one of the UK’s largest art publishers, Whitewall Galleries. Louise has helped collectors of all backgrounds invest in artwork, from established artists like Picasso and Miró to emerging talents. She has also attended Art Sales Academies with several leading galleries.
