At the VAA we’re thrilled to announce the launch of OpenSpaces 2025, a groundbreaking, artist-led global art trail taking place from 11 October to 9 November 2025.
This four-week initiative invites artists from around the world to reimagine everyday spaces – from home windows and shopfronts, to libraries, gardens, hotels, and more – as vibrant, contemporary art venues. Whether showcasing work for just one day or for the full month, participating artists will have the chance to transform their local environment and become part of a truly global movement.
A Worldwide Creative Journey with a Local Heart
OpenSpaces 2025 could potentially be the world’s longest art trail, spanning from Australia to London,” said Laura O’Hare, Director at the VAA. “We’ve already received registrations from artists across the UK, Europe, the US, Africa, the Middle East, and South America. The aim is to create an inclusive, global trail with a local heart — because every creative deserves the chance to take up space and share their work.”
The trail is open to all visual artists and collectives, working in any medium – including painting, sculpture, photography, illustration, installation, digital art, sound, and performance. Participants are encouraged to curate exhibitions that reflect their unique practice, in spaces that connect meaningfully with their local communities.

Art Where You Least Expect It
By embedding contemporary art in the fabric of everyday life, OpenSpaces 2025 brings creativity closer to the public. Participating venues will display QR-coded signage, linking visitors to each artist’s portfolio on a global digital map, while the VAA amplifies the trail through its social media and email platforms.
The VAA is also partnering with artist-focused platforms like Artist Window to help participants find the perfect space to showcase their work.
“Being part of OpenSpaces 2025 is more than just exhibiting — it’s about being seen, supported, and part of something bigger,” said Shirley-Ann O’Neill, Director at the VAA. “We’ll help you find the right space and amplify your voice, so your work reaches the people it was made for.”
