As part of our OpenSpaces 2025 Global Art Trail workshop series, this session will guide you through the essentials of crafting a meaningful exhibition, connecting with local audiences, and preserving your work using the VAA toolkit.
Speaker: Karen van Hoey Smith
Karen is an artist mentor, independent art broker, and curator. She holds a degree in Fine Arts Valuation and has been working in the arts and antiques world since graduating in 2001. She was the youngest female auctioneer in the UK, has served as a consultant expert for the BBC, magazines, newspapers, and radio, and has worked as an art consultant in London. Karen also managed galleries in Bristol and was a senior partner at an art publishing house.
With a successful career as an art broker — including the sale of works by Banksy, Picasso, and Bomberg — Karen brings a wealth of knowledge in artist representation, exhibition curation, and helping artists achieve their goals, whether that’s selling more work or being accepted into public art institutions.
