Tammy Walters is a professional artist who is best known for her equine paintings although she has evolved in genre & style and now covers a wide range of animals. Based in the Lancashire countryside, Tammy has a real love of the rural lifestyle and her passion for horse racing, showjumping and dressage led her to become artist in residence at Aintree International Equestrian Centre.
A self taught artist, Tammy has painted for as long as she can remember, eventually swapping her career at Rolls Royce for the chance to pursue her love of art professionally. Tammy’s approach is bold, expressive, abstract and ethereal at the same time. Her visions invite all audiences to make their own imaginative associations. Her direction of work tries to capture these majestic animals emotionally and intensely.

I wanted to install in this piece the thrill and excitement of the run up to the finish line. Horse racing has a special place in my heart and witnessing up close the sheer power of these beautiful animals and the jockeys rivalry to get over that line, is a pure adrenaline rush. I used ink washes and lots of quick rapid brushstrokes to give the feeling of movement and speed.
