Brecon Blues’ | £685 | 70 x 50 cm x 4 cm | Oil on canvas.
For me, this painting captures the strong light and shadow contrasts of the Brecon Beacons, which have a visually emotive quality, made visible by sharp ridges in the high peaks. There is a sense of being in a landscape that is awesome yet unyielding and challenging, under an ever changing, unpredictable sky. Metaphorically, I feel that this painting also expresses ‘the blues’ a sense of the human emotion that has been brewing over the past year, a sense of longing to be free and out in the open while living through lockdowns. Yet somehow in the image there is also an invitation of the wider panorama, reminding the viewer to hold the bigger picture in mind, with light on the horizon.
